Is there an easy way to adapt this project for plants within a home? For instance, are there pumps and valves that use a small flexible water line? How could this be implemented for 1-5 indoor plants?
yes, the system is very well suited for precise irrigation. The SW can set the irrigation duration time at seconds level which is very useful if using small pots.
Regarding hardware, pumps and valves, I personally tested the 12v micro-pumps as in the picture below:
Surprisingly they are quite reliable, so far I did not have any issues. You can even use one pump for each plant instead of using valves.
Regarding the valves, there are several choices I see on ebay (but never tested) as for example the one below which works at 12v:
Both valves and pumps can be connected to the relays to switch them ON/OFF, and are powered by 12v DC power supply.
