I got the same problem with some of the webcams, seems that they are not able to adjust the brightness automatically with the Raspberry, unfortunately I could not find a solution to that.
You should try the Raspberry camera, the version 1 is quite cheap now and the image quality is very good. The problem of the raspberry camera is that the cable is quite short, so it has to stay close to the raspberry.

It is a little weird but people stream their grows to twitch and YouTube. I am thinking of streaming my micro grow to Twitch :)
I checked the box and the text pictures works. Is there a way to adjust picture settings? It coming out very bright.

well, I dont think the video can be streamed directly to youtube ... (seems it would be weird).
The home page will display the pictures (not video) taken during the day using the daily pictures.
Did you check the box relevant to the camera setting page "activate daily photos"?
