Is this possible to do I've currently go this type; https://www.switchelectronics.co.uk/soil-hygrometer-moisture-detection-sensor-module?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIl9iwh7Ol6gIVmLPtCh0sKg6ZEAQYBCABEgJhB_D_BwE of soil sensor just for testing; I understand they corrode real quick although I've thought of soldiering wire to these.
Im not using the HAT as it would cost too much as I plan to add pi zero w and pi 3 as main hotspot to piece it all together the reason being is this is to be used on my allotment and it would mean long runs of cable for sensors etc as I plan for it to auto water around 10/15 raised bed.
i was planning two soil moisture sensors per pi zero and a 2 channel relay for watering with the pi 3 having other sensors like temp etc
I've tried all sorts to get it work as it has digital output and analog but just can't seem to get the system to read it.
thanks
A MCP3008 is realy cheap and easy implemented. I use the capacitive sensor with the chip. One thing, if the reference voltage of the chip is on 5 Volts, my sensor version 1.2 also needs 5 V does not work with 3.3 V. I had to set Vref on the chip to 3.3V if I want to run my sensor on 3.3v. But the best thing with the MCP3008 is, that I can have 8 more sensores by ocupying only 4 GPIO Pins.
